Wanted: nice render with new Sun/Sky model

Post by lycium » Sat Dec 03, 2011 5:39 am

Hi, we're working on the Indigo 3.2 announcement and would love a better-designed scene than the one we're using now (see attached image). Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated :)

Nick will choose the image for the announcement, and of course full credit will be given; thanks!

It's all about the gap between artists and developers :lol:

So it's definitely one or the other? It may not be the greatest, but I have a whole gallery full of art...

The reason we ask, is that we're a.) busy coding and b.) not the best 3D modellers, yes.

do you still have my alpine mountains scene? I remember you guys made some cool atmospheric tests with that.

hey guys a scene like this could be cool. I had to purchase the model before and did not make it myself (not very good with cars, nor do my project time lines give me the time to build it out). So im not sure if you could use this or not. Or we could get intouch with the creator of the model.

I know you are part of the exceptions Thomas, I was teasing you.

I for one have left modeling and other (average) forms of creation behind when it came to programmatic concerns, and found that your current image was illustrating nicely an own experience !

Could this be a micro-challenge with a deadline so our fellow artists can elaborate on the topic ?

@kdarius: quite dramatic, it's nice.

What will the scene be used for mainly? Testing? For the announcements web page? Should it show off any particular features? (new sky) Will the scene be shipped with indigo like caterpillar/erotica/etc? Would it be best if the scene textures/objects were all original/free to use/creative commons?

Edit: added random sky images, still WIPS I think.. seems like some banding on the more colourful contrasted version (aperture diffraction was on even though it was probably barely noticeable).

Maybe something like that:

Here the same Scene with old Sky Model (adjusted Tonemapping!):

the new Sky looks better, but I don't know if I really like the harder Shadows during Dusk & Dawn that the new system generates,
maybe something that can be tweaked in the future???

P.S.
Me wants Lensflare in Indigo ^^

Animating time of the day over these scenes would be very nice!

To make justice to Pibuz, here's the first public comparison that was made between the two models:

@kdarius

The grass is a circular patch scattered with Blender hair.
I used these http://www.fuzzimo.com/free-hi-res-orna ... -textures/
textures, and played with materials for quite a long time.
