slow rendering

Post by jgconstructores » Thu Apr 22, 2010 4:45 am

When I use skindigo and render my scene, the rendering turns very slow I have let the render for about 12 hours and the scene still remains noisy, is there any recomendation I can use to make the renderings faster or I am using it wrong?

Hi,

please provide your machine infos (CPU, operating system) and some screenshots if possible so that we can see if there is a specific problem; thanks!

No worries, we all start somewhere. Got your email but I'll answer here so we can add to this discussion.

As far as I understand, you've got a dual core machine? Indigo is not a particularly fast renderer. Your scene is an interior that's lit by the outside environment, correct? That's a pretty hard condition for Indigo to sample (each sample has to be traced to the window to the outside sky). What I would suggest is turning on MLT (Metropolis) if it isn't already on and covering the windows with Exit Portals (a type of material, check the SkIndigo docs, I'm not a SkethUp user so I don't know exactly how that is defined). Make sure the Exit Portals (a simple box with an open side) cover your windows from the outside. This will help Indigo find the exterior light much faster.

That should speed things up, but my final renderings take, on average, at least 10 hours to converge reasonably well, and that's on a 2.2 Ghz quadcore.
