Why my render image is all coverd with black?!

Post by anesthetized » Sat Apr 03, 2010 8:52 am

Hi!

I created my first serious model in Sketch Up (I study landscape architecture) and i wanted to to render it with indigo. When i click 'render; in plugins menu rendering proces starts, but all image is coverd in black. No metter how long do i render it it is allways black? What's going on? When i try with another models every thing in OK.

BTW, how long should i render an image? It never stopes...

I use 2.2.12 trial version.

Greetings!

Your normals should face out.
Do u have glass objects (with specular material) intersecting? If soo then intersecting objects should have different % (default is 10 for all, soo u set some 9 or 8, 7, 6, 5).

Do u have sun & sky, emitters, hdr map (some light source)?
Exit portals facing inside rome and camera beeing outside house will result black render.

anesthetized, hi and welcome.
A screen of your problem would surely help.
For me it is a matter of exposure: try increasing the ISO alue and see what happens!

Yes! It was the ISO value.. Thank You so much! I rased it to 1100 and that's the results... (rendering time was abaut 18 hours) still have more questions:

- what's (more or less) the proper value of ISO for the pictures like I made?
- how to change the day light like from noon to dusk?

buss stop view. I know that the glass is too reflective, but noticed that too late :D

ISO value depends on f-stop number and shutter speed. Optical basis.
Here are some empiric parameters you can start to play with:

f/stop: f/11
shutter speed: input 100 (which means 1/100 seconds)
ISO: 400
These values are enough for exteriors, NOT valid for interiors.

Using SkIndigo, you change the light colour and general mood of you image simply varying the SketchUp sun's position.
