Hi cathleen,

What Max tutorial are you refering to?
If I remember correctly, then plastic and metal materials were present in one older exporter made by a guy called U3dreal. Maxigo is a bit different so those older tutorials do not work anymore.

Hi suvakas,

i have tried the tutorial named:
Tutorial Video 2: creating a basic scene, adding indigo materials, and a quick setup for rendering
which is aviable in here for download.
Can you tell me how i should make metal material for example please.

For metal you should use Indigo Phong material type.
"IOR" value increases the reflectivity and lower "Glossiness" value gives you more glossy reflections.
You can also use some "scientific" presets. If you enable "Use NK data" option, then you can browse for NK data file in you Indigo's root dir under "nkdata" folder. Those contain pre measured data, that have spesific characteristics of a material they represent. Files are named after chemical elements.

I hope it helps!

[edit]
Here is a good reference for NK files:

confusing

isn't it a bit confusing that IOR increases reflectivity in a phong, and lower glossiness values give more glossy reflections?

uhm, no...
It's not a glossiness-value but an exponent. It has the advantage of allowing infinite steps in glossiness :)
And IoR also changes reflectivity in reality :)

Nope, it's quite correct ... but in the "oldschool" days you might learned
something different. And always a good read --> Neil Blevins CG Education

... so go on and have fun! ;o))

take care
