I can't find ExitPortal-modifier :(

Post by KrisBerg » Tue Oct 02, 2007 5:32 am

Hi folks,

Id like to take the opertunity to say hi to everyone on the forum. Im a Indigo-noobie, but I have previously worked with Maxwell, SunFlow and other renderers. I saw some fantastic renderings from Indigo, and I really want to get familiar with it's functions.

Right now Im having trouble figuring out the ExitPortal modifier (which I can't find under the MAX-modifier list), like fillipo has found:

http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... php?t=2549

Some system details:
- Max 9 SP2
- Copied the script and UI folder so that Indigo works fine
- Indigo is here: c:\indigo

In advance; Thanks!

Hi Kris,
Check if you have Maxigo_Mod.mse in your scripts\Startup folder.

Hi, and thanks manitwo and suvakas :)

To the problem; -No, I don't have the Maxigo_Mod.mse in the scripts\Startup-folder.. And i've been trying to find where it is, and I downloaded the Maxigo-zip-file again, but apparently it's nowhere in sight.. You guys know where I can find a copy of this script`?

Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind! I just found a previous post attaching a another zip file, containg the file I needed :) Found it here:
http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... php?t=2253

Now that I've managed to set a Plane with a ExitPortal modifier, I can't get it work.. I feel this function is really giving me a hard time. Sorry for being all confused here but I can't resist to ask how I set this up correct...

-I've tried to flip the plane's normals (both inwards and outwards) in my scene
- Change material on the plane
- Convert it from a Plane to a Editable Poly and a Editable Mesh (keeping the ExitPortal modifier on top position of the stack )
- Change Render Properties from MLT to Pathtrace
- Turn off Bidirectional
- Turn on Hybrid mode
- Change material from a clean Diffuse to a Emitter (well, this gives light, but doesn't pass sun through from my Target Direct light, which is the sun i suppose...)
- I've read the tutorial from Fryrender as well, and I understand the purpose of the modfier, but it doesn't really give me the solution...

Any ideas guys?

Hmm...ExitPortal is working fine here.
Did you turn on "Sky" from Environment rollout?
Does the sun comes in without the exit portal?
Also what is your Max version?

[edit]
And you can get the latest Maxigo version from this link:

Hm. Yes, I turned "Sky" on from Environment rollout, and yes, the sun comes without the ExitPortals. Currently running 3DSMAX 9 SP2.

I've downloaded the new Maxigo, and I see some new settings (yey!) -Seems like it's getting better and better :)

Okey, so now I've set up a scene, from scratch (in case of non-backward-compatibility regarding the new exporter-version). My shiny new ExitPortals are in place, but now I encounter a new error.., and I don't think it has something to do with the ExitPortals. See Screenshot attached

It looks like the error occurs because of some parameter-misplacement? I've entered the evil number of 666 as "Numbers of samples to reach", and this number seems to be used as a Path of some kind.. is this a bug suvakas?

(A friend of mine say I'm the best beta-tester there is.., so I'm pretty used to errors :-)

What Indigo version are you using?
Are you sure it's the latest 09?
It seems that you are using some older Indigo version. Version that probably doesn't have support neither for ExitPortals or HaltPerSamples parameter.

Hm. I have Maxigo version 0.9.4 (Maxigo To Indigo 09 Exporter) and I have just checked I got the latest Indigo v0.8 Stable 32-bit Windows Build, 2.4 MB (placed here: C:\indigo\indigo.exe), and I run it on a Vista (norwegian..) 32 bit.

I still get the error above. I have also tested on a XP PC i got here, and I get the same error.. I got nothing to do with the ExitPortal, does it? I try to export a scene without any ExitPortals at all, and still get the error.

Thanks for helping!

Ahhh! Im so sorry guys! I just tested it here, and it works perfect. My bad. I just hadn't read anywhere that the stable version wouldn't work with the Maxigo...

Now; On with the rendering :)

Thanks everyone.

That "stable" is kinda irritating, I'd say.
it should be called "final", as the former final releases.
Ono wasn't sure, at that moment, if he'll develop 0.8 further, or if it'll be the final version - which it was, then.

The last "stable" Version is 0.9t :)
Since 0.7, there was no unstable release, I think... ;) (Or, was it?)
