As a new user it is always a wise approach to use the stable versions of the exporter and Indigo.
I can't speak to the exporter but Indigo 2.6.1 is beta. The latest stable version is 2.4.13 and I can assure you has enough features to grind your teeth on for a good while.
As such don't use the downloads available in the forums but rather the one's rom the web site. That usually get's you past the installation hurdles.

Welcome tritube, thanks for the bug report. I'm always happy to get some feedback from users.
If I remember correctly, the problem might be objects with no material assigned, but I'm just speculating. I could say more if you could elaborate on scene setup (does renderer crash on empty scene?), Indigo setup (does Indigo work properly with test scenes) or steps to reproduce error (when does error occur? on renderer selection, render).
As you've noted elsewhere this release is kind of dated, anyway, I'll look into this as soon as possible.
Cheers,
