I quess it might have something to do with the glass-material. The "real thing" can never be perfectly clear, and those small imperfections might create the bloom-effect in the photos. Try to make extremely fine bumbmap on the inside of the bulb, it might give wanted results.

subsurf/subdivide the bulbs and check for eventual intersections with the floor/wall, that should address the issue I think.
