Not sure how tongue-in-cheek that was, but here's my first proper render with Indigo. Not sure about the DOF, it seems realistic but perhaps a bit ugly... If I leave is rendering for a bit longer hopefully the noise'll clear up.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Aperture diffraction might help, too. I can't tell if you have it turned on or not, though.

I like the models and materials a lot.

Thanks! I don't have aperture diffraction turned on, because I didn't know what it did! I think the models turned out well, it's actualy modelled on a real chess set, although that had matt chrome instead of glass, which didn't look as nice when I made feebl attempts to model it!

To be honest, I don't know if it'll help. http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/in ... iffraction is what it does. I just figured it might make the noise less noticeable since you're getting it the brighter sections of the image.

Returning to the actual problem...
I just did a clean install of Win XP, and ran into the same problem. The exe-installer of Blender actually does install the said files, it just installs them in a different place, and then Blender itself doesn't find them!

When installing Blender, it asks at one point where to install "user data files". The first (and if I remember correctly, the chosen) option is Application Data directory. I found my "lost files" in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Blender Foundation\Blender.

Before I copied those files to my actual Blender directory, I had no python scripts at all, no exporters etc.

I guess the Blender developers must know about this problem already... I hope?

EDIT:
I looked quickly into it, and it seems the problem has been noticed, there's stuff posted on the subject in the Blender bugtracker with bug numbers #7893 and #7828. There's also some other workarounds to this problem.

I guess, if you do a update install, you don't notice this problem, because the older Blender installers have installed the needed files into the "usual" places, and the newer don't destroy them, and Blender keeps on using them.
