glass

Post by Archiman86 » Tue Apr 17, 2007 11:28 am

I have been posting this project i am working on, because I was looking for a good material to use for the paint. But I thought i would post a new topic seeing as how this question is about the glass...I cant seem to find the correct settings to get the glass in the windshield to look realistic..or transparent for that matter. I would appreciate any tips/tricks...thank you.

recalculate your normals outside. make sure the glass has thickness (not just a plane). use a transparent specular material with an ior of 1.5 or so, with no absorption.

... and make sure there aren't any normal-smoothing errors. try the edgesplit modifier.

I am still not getting any transparency...it is purely reflecting...it shows up transparent in the material preview.

yes, i did add thickness to it. I think it might have to do with how it is modeled..or maybe with the settings in blender.....i am still kinda new at this.

You need to close the mesh (in Edit mode, select all verts>W key>Remove Doubles) and then flip the normals to the outside (Ctrl+N).
