mirror F-stop

Post by Jambert » Wed Feb 18, 2009 5:24 am

Hi all

I think there is a problem with miror and focus distance

miror: ior 100, exp 1000000 or al.nk (in database)
F-stop: 128

http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/co ... temid,107/

I have other scene with the same problem

thx for reply :?

(Iuse blendigo 1.1.14 and last indigo 1.1.16)

The IOR of aluminium is 1.59, not 100!
Use the al.nk data (which is included in every package of indigo) and an exponent of 1,000,000.

BTW you can find a huge list of IORs at http://refractiveindex.info/

Code: Select all

<scenedata>
    <material>
        <name>nullMat</name>
        <null_material />
    </material>
    <material>
        <name>mirror</name>
        <phong>
            <ior>10000000</ior>
            <specular_reflectivity>
                <constant>
                    <rgb>
                        <rgb>0.827 0.788 0.737</rgb>
                        <gamma>2.2</gamma>
                    </rgb>
                </constant>
            </specular_reflectivity>
            <diffuse_albedo>
                <constant>
                    <rgb>
                        <rgb>0.827 0.788 0.737</rgb>
                        <gamma>2.2</gamma>
                    </rgb>
                </constant>
            </diffuse_albedo>
            <exponent>
                <constant>10000000</constant>
            </exponent>
        </phong>
    </material>
</scenedata>

Though the simplest way is to use a non-transparent specular, because it has no exponent at all, or a really infinite one if you want to say so. In that regard it will be also faster to render I believe.

IOR does the reflections, both for phong and specular materials. You want to push that one very high like camox is showing.

edit: that said I would give <specular_reflectivity> a try, never did. And perfect mirrors have no diffuse component, another reason why to prefer specular material imo.

Only by blending if you use specular, but you'd better use camox's material for that matter :)
