how to - Spume?

Post by daniel_nieto » Tue May 01, 2007 12:19 pm

Hello, again bothering... well, now you guys know that im doing this scene, and i have liquid on it, i've modelled, and even it doesnt look quite well, it's physically correct (hahaha, i actually filled a bottle with water, and droped it over the table, so i could take a picture of the water flow and use it as reference... xD) and well, if it is possible i would love to add some sort of spume or bubbles on the liquid, perhaps on the splash, or maybe on the liquid within the bottle too... but i havent found (yet, i hope) a way to create it, i was thinking of modelling it, you know make thousands of little spheres together, and i've tried, but the better result i can achieve is like an "underwater-explosion" hahaha, i have "study" how the spume is made, and there isnt more of thousand of spheres, but my material doesnt make it... wich params would you use to make spume, or would you UV-map 'em?

btw, as i am very lazy, and i dont want a start a new thread on WIP just for showing it... i'll do it here... so you can advise me on how to improve it...

spume = a lot of variing bubbles.
many small onmes, many big ones and not ONE is perfectly round.
But if you make the spume fine enough, noone will notice, that there just are tousands of spheres, I guess....

material for them is simple:
specular, IoR 1 percedence higher than the liquid

and use Indigo's primitives spheres instead of poly spheres (lokesea.sphere I think in Blender).

well, i really dont know what indigo's primitives are, i was making the spheres as simply as i could, i added a cube and apply subsurf, just that, make nice sphere's and then i instanciated them... or which would be the best way, then adding a primitive blender sphere? :?:

lol

indigo-primitives are "shortcuts" for perfect shapes.
There are two of them:
1) infiite plane
2) sphere

these things don't use ANY tris or vertices and have a "perfect" shape!

you can't create them directly in blender.
for an infinite plane, you have to add a plane in that position, in that you want it and name it _something_.plane!

for perfect shaped sphere: _something_.sphere

ohh, now i get it... well thanks i will use the primitives and make some test, if i reach acceptable spume i will post it on WIP... thnks all!!! so you dont recommend me using "random circles image" for bumpmap, or uvtexture and bump, with spume photograph?

nope...
that wont give too good results, due to the fact, that transparent mats have problems with that.

The caracteristic of "spume" is a very thin partition between bubbles, so maybe use a dynamic simulation to get spheres almost touching, then bake their position and scale them domn. Just an idea :)
