Experiments..
But the OnoSendai One-Man-Army strikes fast and very Hard!!!
You first pics and the mentioned feature Infos are some real sweet candy!
Perhaps you could use some lowRes Planete Textures from here if you implement them without making them accessible...

Perhaps we should better call you Slartibartfast from now on!OnoSendai wrote:And another cool thing.. in the top image, the camera is two meters above a 6300km radius sphere - the whole earth is modeled, and shots from space should be possible

By the way, how did you like creating the coastlines and fjords?
Were they also your favourites?

Hold your horses guys, an Earth-sized sphere is a far cry from a planet with full terrain! Awesome feature though, absolutely cannot wait!:D What's next, a scale Sun model 93 billion miles from Earth?:) (Hopefully it wouldn't take light 8 minutes to reach your render...)lol
[Edit] Both linear and rotational motion blur would be cool things to see in 0.9

Here's another one that I just got working decently:
This shows volume rendering from a 3d density volume dataset.
The dataset was kindly provided by Beltane, and has dimensions of 150x150x300.
Render time was ~12 mins, 1 thread on a p4.
Scattering and absorption coefficients are both equal to 1000m^-1 at the most dense points.
