if the structure of Violet is anything to go by (and it probably is) the PNG conversion is handled by the file output routine - the image is stored to disk and not kept in memory.

This is very normal.
I let someone else to do the explaining cause i'm not very good at this.
Like told..use -nogui for this kind of final renderings.

No problem . . . the original purpose of this thread is dead (LOTRJ is gone for the week). We'll have to see how the render comes out, and I'll most likely be able to use the image at 97% of the desired resolution, anyway.

It's cool that this situation at least prompted a discussion which possibly may improve the functionality of Indigo.

Igi is no kind of png as well. It's likely there is a full spectrum image buffered in ram, brute force !
