linear tonemapping

Post by dougal2 » Fri May 04, 2007 10:56 am

does anyone still use/require linear tonemapping?

if so, typically what scale values do you use (depends on the scene, i know, but give lower - upper limits) ?

Yes please do add it!! That would be reeeeeeeally useful!!

Can you make the minimum at least 0.00001 and the maximum be anything over 10000?

I have set up .005 as a default in the Blender exporter. This seems to be ok for general sun light scenes.

But you can sort of turn the sun into a moon if you set blueish white balance and set linear lower like .000001 or something around there.

Hey dougal...

I'm shure you ask this because you wan't to bring linear Tonemapping
into Violet (many thanks for your work there!!!)

there are much more also interesting Tonemapping approaches than
Reinhard & linear, just google a bit.... here are two links:

link 1
link 2

btw: raising the maximum Reinhard limit from 0-10 to 0-20 would be great too...

To *unlimited* would be even greater :D Sometimes you want very bleeched images without burning the whites.
