State of rendering - FX Guide

Post by juan_irender » Sat Jul 20, 2013 8:39 pm

Hi all.
FX Guide (http://www.fxguide.com) has published during july a pair of extensive articles about the state of the art of render engines in fx production environments.
Here are the links:
Part I: http://www.fxguide.com/featured/the-state-of-rendering/
Part II: http://www.fxguide.com/featured/the-sta ... ng-part-2/

Renderman and Arnold are covered in depth, but most interesting in these articles is the industry trend towards the use of unbiased techniques in production works. Is surprising to see how a pure path tracing render engine such Arnold, is being extensively used in recent blockbusters like "Star Trek - Into darkness" or "Pacific Rim", being now one of the main production renderers at ILM, a classic Renderman-based fx house.

Ciao.
