wood in the bathroom

Post by wojtek-w » Mon Jul 19, 2010 11:34 pm

hi all,
here's my latest render. Because of the wood-like-tiles on the floor we decided to add some real wood stuff, like wood slices on the mirror (covered with glass surface) and sticks inside showerwall. What do You think?

All model and objects are made by me (i'm using sketchup). Rendering method is mlt. I'm quite satisfied with the result although it still don't look like a photo... Any idea?

All comment are welcome.

Try to play with the tonemapping - it's too warm IMHO. You should also check all the colors (even textures) because it seems there is too much saturation - eg. bathtub.
Maybe different angle view? It's too wide...

pozdr.

edit: saturation - min RGB 51,51,51, / max 204,204,204

hi,
thanks for Your comments.
about wide angle: i'm not a fan either - image is distorted like hell. BUT i can't see other way to show more than just a corner, when we are in relativly small space.

about temperature: here's a cooler version... (postpro)

about saturation: i know that saturation shuldn't be higher than 80% and i try to watch this. Although i've just checked and the bathtub's material is indeed little bit higher (210/210/210)... don't now why

anyway, thanks again for your reply

The 80% rule is mostly because of optimum performance during rendering.
It doesn't mean your textures should reach this "maximum". I mostly prefer to use quite desaturated textures to get a more natural overall look (saturation get enhanced using camera tonemapping for example!)

Regarding your scene, here are a few hints for detail enhancement:

- the bathtub has quite hard edges... since a lot of people dies in bathroom, they are more rounded these days...
- You use the same texture for the floor & the sink area in the front right... may turn that texture 45° so it doesn't follow the same direction as the floor => some visual contrast.
- I also would think about using a different texture for the sink in the front, some stone maybe. in general floor and "working area" material isn't the same in most scenarios :)
- the shoos look a little strange bumped/displaced ^^
- there seems to be a repeating seem in the tiled texture on the walls of the bathtub
- the floor area in the shower could use some different texture, for more visual variation and its more reasonable: http://www.roman-showers.com/assets/ima ... s/8715.jpg

This are just some details I thought about, maybe some of this can push your final result a little :)

HI!!
I have read your post it is a very good idea to add some real wood stuff in your bathroom .Basically Shower wall provide is waterproof bathroom panels and wet wall panels as a cost effective and your bathroom looks very good. It's a modern trend , now a days most of the peoples used such kind of thing to improve the look of their bathroom with affordable cost.
You can better to use some old age style tub or some designs that give a different look to your bathroom also.
