Actually that's something that I worry about myself, I sometimes wonder if my monitor is too much the other way I find the whole area of calibration a bit of a pain.

Use a monitor calibrator like Huey Pro. If thats not within budget then try this:

Thanks for the links, I'm able to distinguish between those darker and lighter shades on my monitor so it's probably not too far out.

Looking back on my comments.... if you wanted the face to be gray then your contrast is ok. I was making a personal comment thinking that for me I would want it darker, ie blacker.
