A concept car

Post by JONC » Thu Mar 11, 2010 2:44 am

Hello there! First time posting on this section of the forum!
For quite a long time I've been working on this concept car with Blender 2.49. It's probably also my first big project (first one where I actually went past the million-faces mark!).
Here it is:

Nice one!
Just a small suggestion to boost realism: the headlights shouldn't look pale white with a simple glow, as now. I think you should model them completely and attach your light source material to a modeled light bulb inside there.
Same with the lower lights.
Plus, two different light colors don't make much sense to me. I would try to give them both some kind of Xenon-appearence (blackbody, temperature 9000) or whatever.
Cheers, David

thanks!

do you happen to have a good tutorial on making headlights? I've tried making one (headlights) before but I never really achieved a decent effect. As for the yellow lights, those are fog lights:

again, thanks for the critique!

hmmmm...that's actually what I've done. But the headlight glass is a diffuse transparent material. Is that probably where I've gone wrong?

alright, I'll try modelling a much more detailed lamp model.

How do I make architectural glass? as in what settings?

If your headlight glass mesh is single-sided, you might use the ghost glass material instead of ordinary glass. The "interior"-mesh around the emitting light bulb might get a simple chrome material, and with that you should recieve nice results.

I found out that it's better to use MLT instead of Path-Tracing with that, because it doesn't overexpose that much.
Cheers, David
