the whole thing does look a little bit like a huge turkish delight.

Since the scene is in a box and the sun not at it's zenith, then you do have some benefices using such an exit portal.

Yes, I probably do get some benefits. Still, this one seemed particularly slow to render. Dunno why. Perhaps because nearly every mat there is glossy, including the walls...
