Great technique Cotty. It deserves a tutorial. I have a hope to add support for the fur plugin in a future release. I don't know the Fur plugin and its options very well but as a first try I reached the attached...
May be with more option tweaking (force, stiffness, ...) you can get what you want?! I also attached the testfile for SketchUp.
