Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
Hi everyone!
I've done some renders with Indigo lately and each time I was lighting my scene with an .exr I experienced some huge changes with the brightness or gamma, in Cinema 4D all is good but when I import the scene to the standalone the HDR become darker and more contrasty...
I would like to have same exact result when I import my scene to the standalone.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
Thanks a lot for the Bugreport MRoz, and welcome to the Forum!
I tested if I could recreate that issue, and yes it worked, my first try was a success.
The problem is that I simply could no repeat that problem after that :/
What I noticed was, that the contrast seemed to be only for the EnvMap changed slightly, not for the rendered objects.
I would also say that it was more of a vignette kind of contrast, stronger on the edges.
Sorry but I haven't saved the first result so I can't show of the issue
This needs more investigation

Yes this is exactly that , higher contrast in the environment map.
You say that you only had this problem once and now it's gone?
So I'll maybe try again haha.
Thanks for your reply. I'm currently rendering a scene, when it's finished I'll post two renders, one in Cinema 4D and one in the standalone.
By the way here is the render I'm doing.

Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
Here is what I was talking about, quite an issue for me... I would like to work seamlessly between both applications.
Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
Hey Mroz,
this difference is way stronger then what I had found in my testing.
BUT:
You need to have same camera for comparison! If you for example use Reinhard tonemapping (default if not changed via Camera Tag!) the brightens of a scene gets changed dependent of its content of what the camera sees, just like the human eye that adapts to light!
Anyway the difference looks to strong to be only related to Reinhard tonemapping...
It would be great if you could provide this simple scene to the devs, send it to support@indigorenderer.com with a link to this thread, they will check out whats wrong here.
Thanks again for taking the time to point out this issue

Thanks for your reply Zom-B,
Yes, the camera was the same in both images, I'll send a scene where it was quite obvious!
See you more on the forum, love Indigo!

Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
I was relating to the camera position/angle actually. Reinhard Tonemapping is adaptive to what is seen by the camera, changing the angle, also changes the content of the camera and the adaptiveness changes the whole look regarding brightness etc.MRoz wrote:Yes, the camera was the same in both images, I'll send a scene where it was quite obvious!
You could try linear or camera tonemapping, they are "static" and don't adapt to the content they see.
Keep on posting your stuff here in the forum, your portfolio looks very promising

Oh yes, sure! Haven't moved in this example, Reinhard here, but the chocolate candy was on Camera mode and the difference was also huge.
Thank you Zom-B, I will!

Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
This looks like a gamma decoding issue. The EXR should be loaded with gamma=1, it looks like it is loaded with gamma=2.2 or so by Indigo

Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
That was exactly that galinette... Thanks! I think Cinema 4D automatically concider that this is a linear profile but Indigo doesn't, so I didn't understood... So as you said you just have to change the gamma to 1.

Re: Problem with HDR images when I export to standalone
Hey Mroz,
then I suggest you have an old Indigo standalone version installed!
double-check to use the latest one 3.8.13: http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... =1&t=13260
Since some Indigo versions costume gamma for EnvMap EXRs is possible, before that it always set gamma back to 1.
By raising your EnvMap gamma you get some higher contrast and usually also brighter lights and sharper shadows, check out BBBs blog entry about that technique: http://bertrand-benoit.com/blog/2010/02 ... -lighting/
