@Marquis de Sade
I think your idea is the best so far. If you want to raise the quality, render it twice the size and scale it down in photoshop. Also, I believe the tiles need the corners rounded a bit, you need to add the V0.6 into the picture and, I hate to tell you this, you've mis-spelt triple.

But, as I said, I think it's the best idea.

Marquis de Sade, great pic.
i would suggest to add a very few bump on letters, like if it is graved (or carved? i don't know the english word).
bye

I like richie's flag. 8)

I think the wood needs rounding on the corners and maybe a little bit more dof.

Hey Marquis,
some very subtile phong reflections on the stones or/and the board could perhapes look nice too
(The latters shoud have some Bump & reflactions!)
Perhapes this Scene could also use a second, also subtile lightsorce...

finaly a wonderfull Idea, and a nice Scene, now some finetuning and your the Winner :P

hui.. thanx for all the replies out there! :-)
i will work hard on it to realise most of your ideas! the mistake with triple spelling is one of the stupid ones.. ;-( but shouldnt be that hard.

yes.. i thought of bumpmap too.. will add that.
-> the stones are already rounded and honestly, it would be a lot of work to round every stone again without simple-smoothing (would be too polygon-expensive)

hmm.. ok lets see what i can do :-D

ok.. reworked the scene and put in most of the ideas you had..
had to change lighting, so you can see bump and reflaction better..
also changed triple spelling ;-)

didn't render it very long, have to change some things.. its just for preview ;)

but i'm not really satisfied with this version... reflactions seem to be washed out.. the letter "i" in "indigo" is nearly unreadable.. have to play around with lighting.

if you have any suggestions, very welcome :-)

The colours may be a bit washed out.. but I think it is more realistic, due to the phong material specular reflections.
One thing that is a little naff...I think i can see pixelisation in the bump map around the letters on the tiles.
Try blurring the bump map a little, eg gaussian blur by a few pixels - should help.
Anyways, fantastic work!

yeah.. saw that too.. on letter "e" there is a black dot.. i think this is also a bump mapping problem.. have to work on it.. its hard to find the right values for the bump mapping parameters..

thanx for your comment! will try if it works with blur on bump!

great renderer and all this for free, thank you Nick! :-)

take care,
Marquis

ok here is my final version of my scrabble board!
i like it now.. i think its good balance between glossiness and color, reflactions are nice and bump mapping has greatly improved through gaussion blur! :-)
