I did a little overclocking and am running at 3.5ghz up from 2.6ghz now and all I can say is Holy Fiddlesticks - my previous machine (3ghz P4) was doing this scene at 68,000 s/sec. The i7 is now doing it at 1,100,000 s/sec now

oh my mistake, its not due to cauchy - its something else... Try run the dispersion test scene and see for yourself. Every time I try it I get loads of multicoloured fireflies. This happens to me 100% of the time when I have a material that uses dispersion (cauchy > 0) If dispersion is disabled then everything looks fine.

Apparently its possible to get up to 40% speed improvements with air cooled overclocking so you should def give it a try - just make sure you use something other than the P.O.S. stock cooler.
