I second that too!!!
Some people got Problems with Freezes & Restarts of thair System,
So this would help them a lot to work with Indigo...
(my PC just frozed after a 14h rendering, that wasn't finished  )

**EDIT**
just get a nice idea how to use resumable rendering further!!!

Just stick any junky old computer in the corner, even a P1-133 will be fine, and run Indigo as the master (don't bother running a local slave renderer if the box is low end, it's pointless.)

Then your client can do whatever you want, and whenever you want to go back to rendering, just fire up in slave mode. Makes overnight rendering possible on your super-duper gaming machine that you don't want to tie up during your fragfest time.

BTW, this works in linux under wine too, so if you've got a file server or router/firewall box you leave running 24/7, just run the master server off it... works perfectly. (and if you leave :7777 open to the world, you can go to work, run a slave, and have your office's machines render and feed you frames, though if you get fired it's not my fault. :P)

:D

I may have a partial solution. At least so you people can get on with fragging etc without too much trouble. Just open task manager and change the process priority to the lowest possible. That should work fine. CS:S worked nicely. If it doesn't you might need to change the game's process up in priority or something.

I hope that made at least a little sense....

I'm doing this all the time. Setting Indigo to low priority and you can do all the other stuff including gaming.
But the the resuming rendering (i think it's a planned festure of Maxwellrender) is a great idea.
AFAIK, you can then break the render. It's then saved in a special format and you can continue this at a later time.

Or if the computer reboots or you suffer a HANG and must reboot, like when you are halfway past the render....That's pretty much our fears here.

Or even worse, computer dies in the middle of a write to IMG2378946897324.PNG, leaving you with a nice 1/4th of a smoothly rendered image :P

On the whole, though, I'd rather see Indigo completed first.

Completed, to me, means a few things like SSS, and a rudimentary GUI.

Then rendering resuming is just gravy :)

Guilty as charged.

I wouldn't leave my box here at work rendering over the weekend or anything on something NOT for work, though.

Which reminds me: question for Ono: does the time between frame sends make ANY difference at all for network rendering?

I mean in regards to the final product.

It's easier on the bandwidth to send them infrequently....
