It's not some kind of perceptual convergence improvement, its a blunt speedup.

Yes, I had such an issue too! I send a example crash file to fused for investigation...StompinTom wrote:Indigo 2.4.3 is crashing just before it starts rendering, after it's loaded everything, done subdivisions. Yep! The scene works perfectly fine without subdivision.Zom-B wrote:Yes, I had such an issue too! I also can confirm this issue...ENSLAVER wrote:On that note I get a crash with a displacement that has high subdiv AND a diffuse map, take away diffuse it's fine. (x64)
Well I don't think so Glare... at least not if you use subdiv a lot :( I found out that my testrenders for towel closeups with high subdiv and displacement where rendering very slow!fused wrote:Nick mentioned today that Indigo 2.4 should be quite a bit faster than 2.2 so i benchmarked it.
Turns out that on my Core 2 Duo it is 20% faster. 8)
Just tested Bvh vs Kd-tree for a closeup of a subdiv displaced towellycium wrote:I think there are currently some issues with displacement and bump mapping, there was an example shown earlier with incorrect results.
I belive this is normal. BVH loads faster, but renders slower than KD, I think.Zom-B wrote: kd-Tree: 138k s/s
