Indigo slave licensing question...

Post by Zom-B » Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:32 am

Hey Ben...

I'm seriously interested in finally getting a license :)

But I still got a question about licensing:

that the master license is restricted to the "main machine" is quite ok, and obvious !
But how about the slave licensing? Is the slave license connected to the master,
so that after 2 (random) Indigo 2.x slaves connected the cue is closed (just like for C4D Netrender)
or is it the evil way to hook the slave license to the hardware of a slave too???

Since Indigo is interesting for some commercial work, where I got mostly (Internet) access (via Hamachi) to two 8 core Mac's, I would like to use this two slave licenses for them..... BUT during nonprofit Jobs I would like to use my home network or some friends over the Internet too!!!

So am I lucky, and the slave licensing is dynamic (like for C4D), or how does it work exactly?

Thanks in advance :)

Guten Tag Herr ZomB!

Der licence fur Indigo ist...

The licencing system for Indigo specifies a hardware ID for each render slave, so you need to choose two renderslaves that you want to run Indigo on, and install Indigo on those. I hadn't heard of that dynamic licencing idea before - so you're saying that you install indigo on your pc, and it has 1 full licence and two dynamic licence it can use to fully-enable any installed indigo slave?

That's a cool idea - I'll discuss it with Ono when he comes in.

Ben

Yes, the Idea is to have "licensing check" running only on the master Hardware, so the first two clients that join are accepted a third, fourth etc. would be blocked. This system is more flexible for the user.

I don't know about the (cracking) security of this system... basically the free 2.x demo could be used as netrender without restriction (and no ISI saving on HDD!).

We may do the licensing on the server only at some point, but not just now sorry.

No problem with the timing, the general info is enough for me atm :)

I totally agree with ZomB.
The slave limitation should be that way, that the master looks up how many node licenses are bought/allowed and then catch all nodes running automatically.
