I find it odd. My photoshop usually says otherwise.ZomB wrote:Saving from the GUI to a EXR image the 32bit file only contains the 8bit information

Try for example to Drag & Drop this image into the C4D Image Manager...
in PS the Histogram is shifted too.

It comes overexposed but still you can tweak it as you would with a regular 32 bit image. I think that 8bit image couldn't cope with the amount of exposition present on this image.ZomB wrote:Try for example to Drag & Drop this image into the C4D Image Manager...

I think it contains all the information, it's just that the pixel values are a lot higher than you're expecting.
Re: [Bug] GUI Save 2 EXR = LDR image
I found this thread and im pretty sure that zombie is right. Its saving "32 bit" but information is only 8 or its clamped. I need to tweak my render in picturenaut but for example exposure isnt adjustable like in real 32bit image. I tried same scene in fry, i saved 32bit hdr and its working like a charm.
btw 32bit exr from indigo have some black dots...?bug?

Re: [Bug] GUI Save 2 EXR = LDR image
I would like to bump this MAJOR issue by providing some proof.
I simply set up a scene in C4D with a EnvMap and rendered a 32bit EXR in C4D, and one in Indigo, with quite similar (linear) tonemapping. I use the Ennis EnvMap from Paul Debevec, and pointed the cam into the ultra bright window.
Since in Indigo saving file as tonemappedEXR & untonemappedEXR isn't possible anymore through commandLine, I had to use the save as dialog!
First Problem: Indigo only saves Linear Tonemapped EXR with value 1! (maybe whitepoint gets ignored too!!!?!)
Second Problem: the saved image is LDR!
Please, please with sugar on top.... this is a serious feature professionals need to PostPro their work.
its broken since ages and forgotten
Feel free to check my example renderings or do own experiments. Maybe this issue is only related to EnvMap lightened images, but it is a issue! Try to save the caterpillar testscene as a EXR for some fun ^^

Your images certainly have an issue, although I just did an experiment of my own, and it appears to be working correctly on my PC. I'll try and do more subjective tests tomorrow.

Zombie is right, here you can see. I found 90 minutes and made some tests. Here you can see that Zombie`s renders are correct because in my tests, changing exposure on indigo`s EXR is making picture greyish because of lack of stored data.
PLS CLICK TO FULLSIZE
here is the classic 32bit comparsion between Fryrender`s 32bit output and Indigo`s output. Here is bug wuth using HDRi as lightning source. Indigo wont to store any data.

This is veeery close to what opened in photoshop after saving as exr with envmap only. Didn't get a white or black image. What environment gain did you export with?
