Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
OK! Thanks for explanation.
I have Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz CPU. Is it enough for staff like tonemapping and material calculations for somebody with limited resources ( I am a rendering newbie)?
Thanks in advance for the answer.
Gene.

If I've understood correctly, any CPU will work. It'll only take more time...
The only real limit I'm aware of is the amount of ram.

Any CPU will work, but it's a matter of waiting 2 hours vs. 20 hours. The faster the better.Silmä wrote:If I've understood correctly, any CPU will work. It'll only take more time...

In terms of RAM, 4 Gb can get you through a LOT with Indigo. More helps, obviously, but so far I haven't hit any barriers with 8 Gb.

Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
Thank you for the answers. I should add more RAM. As for the rendering speed in the future with GPU solution for ray intersections, would CPU still matter that much (2 or 20 hours)? May be I should wait and buy a better GPU instead?
Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
It may be that you get more rendering Power by adding a nice GPU, like a 5770 for 130€, than upgrading to a compatible Intel Quad CPU on your board.
But Anyway the CPU should not be to slow, otherwise the GPU could just be not feed fast enough and therefor only work with 75% or so...
Wait for the Beta that should come around relay soon, and lets see what the Benchmarks etc. tell :)

Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
We won't know until the first betas come out, hopefully in the next few days! I'm not exactly sure how GPU acceleration will be working in Indigo, whether it is just for ray intersections (like LuxRender) or something different. A better GPU will definitely help, that much is clear.drosophila wrote:Thank you for the answers. I should add more RAM. I'd say wait until the first versions come out and some tests are run on different GPUs to determine what the best option is (Nvidia or ATI, which model, etc.). Then see how your renderings go. If there is still a substantial slow-down, look into getting a better CPU. I know that SLG (the Lux GPU renderer) has problems sometimes with feeding the GPU and needs a good CPU to be able to make the most out of the GPU, but we won't know if such is the case for Indigo yet.

Thank you all for advice. I'll wait, I am not in any hurry.
Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
Mac Release. Where is it? Some of us paying customers have Macs... and would like access to the latest development builds. Why is it taking so long to release this thing? I'm feeling a little bit like a second class customer here...

Me too!
Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
I'm working on the Mac build currently, it's nearly done, maybe tmrw it will be ready.
Cheers!

Just one day to wait!
Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
We have a beta-beta version up, it's available here: http://www.indigorenderer.com/dist/beta ... .4.4_2.zip
Re: Indigo Renderer 2.4.2 Released
To anyone who's downloaded the above, please grab it again (link is updated now) as lycium accidentally linked the wrong version. We'll do a proper release with announcement soon!
