Among the stars

Post by neo0. » Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:52 pm

Well, it's been a long time, but I think Im making progress with this scene.. I've redone it probabaly a dozen times but I think this is the one im going to go with..

Adding 4 gigs of ram allowed me to go up to 300k polies too Im barely at 100k right here though. :)

Well it's certainly improving. There's actually some "feeling" to it now. Keep going, there is much left to do.

I actually agree with Wyt: I can now feel some sensations coming out. Silence. Thoughtfulness. Solitude.
I think the big scale of the ship in contrast with the tiny subjects (the benches, the handrail, the man,..) are very important and well played to give some meaning to the composition.

I also think that you have to work some more to make the scene look REAL, but I really think the hidden project, the MEANING of an image, is actually a great part of the work, and I think you're almost there.

Before throwing out renderings and setting up lights and materials I would focus on finishing the scene 3D wise...

I plan on adding some tables/chairs later on... Any other ideas? I decided against trees because I figured that trees might attract bugs...

you really need some concept man... you shouldn't start your projects without any!!

grab Mass Effect 1 or 2 and play it! The whole "space town scenario" should be a good base to start!
try to copy it, you'll end up in a own interpretation of your source and finally after months with something worth to show... hopefully...

I've got some good ideas.. I want to contrast the comforting feel of the room with the lonliness of outer space..

Sorry, what I was trying to say is that I have a starting point.. I don't have mass effect.. but I guess I could always look at some screenshots.. : Thanks for the idea. :)

I agree with Godzilla and WytRaven, not quite with your educational program ZomB ;)

But it's true that if you want to avoid references... at least you need some knowledge

Look for some scientific reports in fields that interest your project. For instance look for "bonnal_en". I mean, games are alienating most of the time, real science can be just astonishing (to Mars in 39 days, heard about this ?).

Kidding done it's good to see progresses from you neo.

Hi

Neo0, you have many good ideas, but the best recipe for a good project is to have one main idea better than all the others.
We all se you made big progress, your images aren t hyper extra noisy anymore, and your images have more and more textures and pov's are more interesting. There has been lot's of progress, but the whole stuff still needs at least the same progress. To encourage you, i d say you re at half you can do.

I d just repeat what has been said, there is a scale problem, and an inadequation between the fantasy stuff, and these benches which look exactly like the ones i sat on when i was 4 years old in the park next to my home... that s not futuristic. (let s not create theories on futurism and vintage fashion etc blah blah blah...) we are here to create and invent stuff so don t be shy in your creations, stop copying or just importing.

keep it up. Imo, you really should reduce the size of the room.

don't use overexposed colors. also for color the rule of max 80% on each channel should be followed (204 of 255).
