SU shadows not matching

Post by Pibuz » Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:22 pm

Hi Whaat, Hi all.
I'm writing a new topic even if I know somewhere in the forum this topic has already been posted. This because I really want you developers focus a little on this: I know this should be a side-issue if compared to many more critical bugs, but it's been a while (a year maybe?) you know that, so maybe time has come to finally solve this. No hurry, absolutely: it's only that it's starting to be annoying, that's all.

I'm writing tutorials for the italian community (SkIndigo in particular) and while testing I got these results. I prepared a simple iterior scene, no complicated materials, and:

issue 1: when NOT using EXIT PORTALS, the rendered shadows never match the SU shadows.
issue 2: when using EXIT PORTALS, SU shadows match, but there are some minor problems with:
- Simple PT, which won't render sun's direct light
- MLT, which will render some odd artifacts.

For any further information please post here!
Sorry Whaat to bother again...

That's a good comparison, thanks Pibuz. I'll see what Ono has to say :P

I think the light highlight may have something to do with the size - amount of light sources - and it's allowed movement in space. Soo therefore light traveling "end point" is different.

Hi Pibuz,

I'll have to take a look at this. I believe it is an Indigo issue, though.

Shadows not matching exactly is a known issue with Indigo.

uhm...So why are they matching when portals are ON and not in all cases?
This is a little confusing..

Is there something you can do Ono to fix this?

Maybe I could fix it with a bit of work.. Is it a big deal?

It depends, not having sun is considered in some parts of the world as bad, in some others something quite normal...

If you could fix this in your spare time I'd be certainly glad
It is a small issue which is absolutely secondary...but REALLY TIRESOME!
