brushed aluminium

Post by Silmä » Thu Jan 14, 2010 10:03 am

I'm trying to create a material like this: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbvi ... -metal.jpg

I have al.nk material with bump-map that looks pretty much like that, but I'm finding it difficult to get subtle enough grooves, as the lowest allowed value for bump-map depth in blendigo is .01 mm. The image I'm using has already very low contrast.

Here's what I've been able to do so far:

Please have a look at this thread and use a shader instead of a texture. ;o))

Looks intimidating...

Guess I'll just settle with adjusting the b-value manually in the indigo scene file.

you could also try to use your bump map as a Exponent map (without bump mapping at all!)...
this should generate a more subtle effect.

Using ISL you can control values way lower the Exporter based limit...

Which is way above cindigo for example where you have 1mm at best, still it should give you plenty of room for real scratches. Could you post the material as pigm?

Put it in the Material Editor, the values go much lower.

I would never say that with low contrast sketch map in the 0.01 mm region would make that severe bump...

Apparently it was an exporter related issue. All is fine after updating from Blendigo 2.2.11-b to -d.
