SkIndigo 2.2.9

Post by Whaat » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:31 pm

This version contains a critical bugfix that was occuring with Windows systems that could result in loss of data.. It caused problems with saving of the SKP file that was exported to Indigo. After a quick period of testing, this version will replace the current 'stable' version (i.e. 2.0.12).

Windows Installer
Mac ZIP Archive

Version 2.2.9

#Added: correlated color temperature to white balance preset drop-down
#Fixed: Material preview thumbnails on Mac
#Changed: made material previews halt at 5000 samples
#Added: start and stop preview buttons
#Fixed: custom UV set export bug which prevented scene export
#Changed: low cpu priority to 'background mode'
#Changed: made 'use preset thumbnail' enabled by default when assigning presets
#Changed: turbidity range to 2-6
#Fixed: nkdata (metals) IGM loading on Mac
#Fixed: SKP file saving bug - launching indigo in new way on PC
#Fixed: back button bug
#Changed: added icon to sun tool
#Changed: made button text pure black
#Added: Absorption layer transmittance (surface color)
#Fixed: bug with instances using different materials

Please post feedback and bugs.
Enjoy!

Ok Whaat: I only opened and tried it a little. First thing I notice is that the console shows no more while rendering the mat previews. That is a great enhancement, I like it! Only thing: could you add some kind of bar to show the progress of the mat preview rendering? As it is now, it is hard to tell if everything is going fine after you've pressed the play button: nothing shows up or anything, and one can be a little confused.

Sorry to bother again Whaat: any chance that with the new year we could get to know HOW THE HELL DOES THE LAYER ABSORPTION FEATURE WORK?

A very short how-to would be enough I think: just give us a hint, for God's sake!

Just joking...you know it, do you?

There's not much to it. This parameter is called 'surface color' in SkIndigo. It works as any other map in SkIndigo. The purpose is to add surface color variation to a specular or glossy transparent material.

One tip is that the map normally has to be quite bright. Otherwise, too much light will be absorbed and the material will appear very dark. White areas will let all the light through and black areas will block all light from passing into the medium.

Some potential uses for this feature are:
- skin color variation
- stained glass windows
- projector film simulation
- 'dirt' map on a window (easily done with blend material as well)

Thank you!
What about the related numeric value? What does it mean?

SKindigo finally renders materials by itself! Nice! Thanks whaat!
could you add some kind of bar to show the progress of the mat preview rendering?
Agreed! My idea was to have a progress bar that would serve a couple functions : show progress of preview render, pause and resume render (click on progress bar would toggle), and set max examples before render (ctrl click on bar to set max samples.)

The start/stop render feature is really great, I hope all the exporters can get it. You might want to share how you did it to the others
