Open call for techniques and tutorials requests...

Post by benn » Sat Sep 12, 2009 9:48 am

We have a project to move all of the documentation contained in this forum into our techniques and other manuals. This is an open call for what else should we be putting effort into documenting or writing tutorials about. What would you like to see documented?

Blender camera setup. Handy for us folks who use an app for which there isn't an exporter yet (Silo, Modo ...).

Me thinks there's marketing potential in Blender tuts that shed light on the Silo/Modo/whatever > Indigo workflow.

Some material formula explanations with example how to calculate.
Like Henyey-Greenstein g parameter calculation and how to convert it to RGB values for indigo.

Shader language parameters explanations. Like noise shader, how mutch noise scratches can i get with some settings per some square measure.

Here are few:
* Exit portals
* Tips to improve convergence rate/speed
* When to use different rendering methods (MLT, Bidir, etc.)
* A,B,C, gamma parameters (worth mentioning again)
* how to create a great studio setup
* Layer blending
* Detailed explanation and lots of example images of each Indigo parameter (exponent, sigma, IOR, henyey-greenstein, scattering).

Wow, Whaat. . . yes, I'd love to read some insight on those topics.

But, really, all you need to do is go through the whole process and thoughts of your bedroom animation.

Clip mapping
Step by step explanation of how to make etched glass material (or something similar.) The point here would be basically to explain how transparent materials can be mixed with texture maps.

I'm getting the feeling that the true power of indigo's materials is within ISL. Sadly i am not a programer, so I'd need a list of to-do's before sitting down and learning this language.
So far the tutorials are very good, even if scattered all over the place.
