The paypal donations are appreciated, they went to the cost of running the servers back when nick didn't have any income. (It cost him about 1200 USD a year to run indigorenderer.com).
I'm darn sure they are appreciated! Having your company funded for free by people is surely something everyone would dream of! ;-)

I'm sure the majority of users feel like me in that we've had great free software, development and support and a place to discuss our issues. The free side is still there (versions before 2.0) as of now we can choose to run older versions, buy 2.0 or jump ship to other free and open source renderers like Lux. Those who chipped in for the hosting did so to see the project continue.

Nice to see there are people with some realistic perspective around here :)

Is it realistic or naive?

The fact remains that people who donated in effet financed a commercial venture for free. And no-one seems to acknowledge that fact.

Nah, they just ensured that the developement would go on so they will be able to keep using it - even commercially.

Still, most of those nagging seem to forget that theres also Indigo 1.1.18 under its original license.

No they didn't, as at the time Indigo hadn't gone commercial yet.

Look at this way: if you'd bought a painting from the young Hitler, would you in fact have co-funded the Holocaust?

Errr ... bit of an odd comparison, but I think you know what I mean.

Someone had to bring up Hitler.

I believe that ends the thread with Stinkie being the big loser
for bringing up a Nazi.

Not that I disagree with his opinion just the Hitler reference.

For the record, I made a few small donations, but nothing near the money I've made with Indigo, which, in the space of a year, financed a 4gb, 64-bit, dual-core 19'' laptop, an 8Gb quad core render node, and an Intuos3 tablet. So I don't particularly feel like I've been ripped-off. Hell, sometimes I even feel guilty for not giving more.

I feel the same way BdB - both having made money and feeling guilty.... less of the latter I must admit :-)

I'm guessing this is little more than a cameo appearance but welcome back none the less BbB :)

I did. I still don't see your point, though. I was clearly using a rather grotesque hyperbole as a means of claryfying myself. This should be obvious enough. So why you went out of your way to point out you'd rather not see the Nazis or Hitler mentioned, is something of a mystery to me.
