Blender has official tutorials in their wiki. The first thing they show you is how to access the options panel.

I guess the point for 2.50 is that there can be alternate UIs, right?

So you "Oldskoolers" can have it their used way, but someone who prefers a UI like for example 3ds Max can create something that looks and feels nearly the same, only with Blender and just by adding a config-file or something.

Someone else who wants to work on the same scene can then still have his own UI but not everyone will be forced to use the at least not loved by everyone standard-UI.

No, not really... Afaik, it'll be a total and fix replacement... But with lots of new ways of modifying it^^ (As current "builds" of 2.5, if one can call them so, already show)

Argh, I fear they will screw it up again then...

...and then (like the Linux guys) still say it's superior and you just have to learn how it works because they have found the one and only holy way how to navigate in a 3d app.

Ah, it's unfair to flame even before, but still - Blender could be such a great program + tool, why on earth don't they like create another alternative useful interface for the ones that don't like the original one?Just not "innovative" "groudbreaking" or "uncluttered" - just the industrial standards where I can check checkboxes instead of clicking on some gray areas with gray text and maybe even have a bigger floating menu that shows me only the things I'm interested in atm (how uncool!)

WOW!

maybe i'll take another look at blender when 2.5 comes out, although these changes seems to be a purposal rather than a plan. No?

quote from blender.org "Currently, focus is on first bringing back a working Blender. Don't expect immediately a completely new interface design, especially how buttons or tools and toolbars will work is for later. It's also good for our team to get first more familiar with the new system before working on recoding the UI side. Needless to say, with the new 2.5 architecture such work is much more efficient."

also from blender.org http://jlp.nerim.net/dev/event%20system ... l-V0_3.pdf

unfortunately doesn't seem to be anything too revolutionary coming soon

Blenders UI is pretty innovative I'll give it that, but it does kind of date back to the days of the amiga..

Still.. Read this
ttp://download.blender.org/documentation/bc2008/evolution_of_blenders_ui.pdf

There are many issues with the blender UI. The concept of a GUI was still pretty new around the time of the amiga afaik..

just like Atari, but Machintosh opened the way as everyone knows. Amiga was probably the nicest for almost a decade, until pc's had better graphic boards.

edited to the post below: A flexible UI and hotkey mapping... Cool, just like every 3d app :D Thanks Alias for directional gestures, and gizmos by the way ;P

Update!

http://www.blender.org/development/curr ... 5-project/

Honestly, most of that stuff is way over my head. Window wrapper? API? :? But look at the bottom! New UI! Custom key mapping! I can make everything just like modo!:) Thew new color scheme looks great as well, very silo-ish..
