Strange polygons

Post by iacx » Wed Sep 24, 2008 9:21 pm

Hello to all, I have a problem the Render. The normal allignate are oriented, I do not understand the difference in color between parts of the building.
The model was made under Rhinoceros are then passed to C4D to render with Indigo.
Could this be the cause?

Thank you. :)

some example file with only some of the problem zones would help here!

Without having a look on the 3D scene I would say there are

a) double polygons overlapping in this area
b) polygons are not connected
c) the C4D Normal smoothing tag has a ultra high setting based on b)

maybe just select your whole mesh and try right click and optimize it...

Hello Zombie, thanks for your answer. The polygons are optimized and there are no double polygons.

I attach the image with the existing polygons selected.

After various tests, I noticed that when the camera is close to the column defects arise , while if the room is far from the column polygons are visible.

I attach the file column (C4D11) and the two images.

I do not understand the problem ...

P.S. I had the same problem in another work with Rhino and then exported to Cinema, perhaps the problem is over there ...

strange... somehow I cant download the attached zip :?

regarding your description this issue maybe related to poind d) your scene size.

Try to bring your house into some reasonable export size using the "global scale multiplier"
in the "indigo render settings" tag...

hope this helps

Many thanks ZomB, by varying the parameter to 0.1, everything works. :D

Sounds like a ray_nudge_distance error :)
Is the scene modeled in dm? or which scale was it intended for? 0.1 means dm. 0.01 cm 0.001 mm 1 m and 1000 km.

(If the C4D factor of 1 also means 1:1 translation to Indigo...)
Always check that your scale is about correct. And if it doesn't solve the problem, you either have to use smaller scenescale than realistically or to change the ray nudge distance... (an advanced factor, only recommended to change if things are too big although in real scale.... Most likely the case if you model in km precession)

The scene is set in cm. The mistake I found both with the scene in cm and m with global scale multipler was 1.

Now it seems that everything works, the current settings are cm with global scale multipier 0.1. :D

...which is dm. For absolute correctness (also cam and blur-wise and such), you need to set it to 0.01 ;)
Though, as it works right now, that should be fine....
