Outpost - hunt cabin

Post by StompinTom » Fri Jun 20, 2008 4:11 am

hey hey

just finished this for a client. the design and rendering are mine. modeled, textured and rendered in the past two days. a wee bit rushed, but im still gonna add more detail and accessories, as well as change the roof structure to a degree, but the client needed something to show to some possible investors at some US embassy thing today. its for a line of off-the-grid, prefab cabins/cottages that hes developing for the Canadian and US market, and hopefully overseas if it takes off.

comments/crits more than welcome! bombs away....

Really nice. A bit cramped. But I guess that's the whole point.

You should try to run this one through THE RANCH. It could do wonders with such a tricky lighting situation.

It's a pity you didn't use lens shifting, other than that I'm always impressed by people successfull when into a rush, cosy one !

As CTZn said, a shift lens would work here, I think.
I think the foreground needs a little bit more illumination as well.
I think you should increase the gain on the fire emitter. (while keeping the colour temperature low so it only emits red/orange light)

Yes, lens shift would be really helpful on this scene.
Other then that, very warm and cosy atmosphere.
I would probably reduced the back illumination and tried to get more light coming from the fire.

thanks to all!

i was considering using lens shift but the time spent tweaking it between Blender and Indigo wasnt acceptable so i passed it up for this one. the foreground is meant to be darker, to emphasize the fire.

the idea is to highlight the different functional spaces such as the bunks, the bright (working light) kitchen and the cozy subdued living area. i wanted to put some candles around there too.... maybe ill tweak it or throw em in the next one!

Looks great!
Maybe a little modern though...

I know this sounds stupid, but I haven't been around the forums for a while....what is the lens shift feature, what does it do?

Thanks :P

Simply put it distorts the light rays so vertical lines become parallels, it's a real world camera feature ;)

Hi Deus,
I hope you're joking, but bear in mind that sarcasm isn't easy to pick up on the 'net, and your jokes can cause offence.
