Quick one - ligne roset catalogue

Post by BbB » Fri May 09, 2008 6:33 pm

A quick scene, trying to match an image in the ligne roset furniture catalogue (their site has a good pdf).
Modelled in Blender, rendered in 1.0.9 64 bits in two 10-hour sessions on a Quad core 2.4Ghz. Original size something like 2000x2400. Camera tonemapping.

Very nice pictures. I really like the match boxes (if they are match boxes), they are organised very naturally, did you used the softbody or game engine to let them fall on the floor ?

Thanks Enrico. I wish I knew how to use the physics engine. Haven't bothered learning it yet. These were placed by hand... A pain.

a very nice result bbb, great as always :ab

But for my screen your purple couch is way to dark, the contrast to the rest of the scene seems somehow "unrealistic".

Also archiving this velvet Style kind a bit of fresnel for the material is kind of impossible for Indigo ATM... maybe a blend with an Oren Nayar + a phong with very low exponent + bump map could do the job... how did you solve it atm?

Maybe some more bumpness of the couch model would would reflect the light better like on the original at the left side... or only an additional lightsource could be used to generate some nicer highlight at this spot...

just my 2cent

Thanks man. You're right about the couch. Perhaps the diffuse map is a bit dark. I could brighten it up in PShop.
I didn't even try to replicate the velvet material. I went for a pure diffuse mat here, which I agree is not quite right compared to the photo.

The color bleeding in the ref is interesting... In fact I believe they used a dimm purple light on the left side, because the color bleeding is visible in the couch's shadows only.

Camera matching in Blender is a pain in the hiney to do...and as you probably noticed, it is very difficult to get an accurate match.....

...but there is another way - if you want to get it more accurate then you should give Sketchup a shot - Sketchup's camera match feature is super quick and accurate once you get the hang of it. If you are using the Pro version then you can then export the camera position via Collada export and Blender can in turn import the Collada file
.
If you don't have access to the Pro version, then just use the free version of Sketchup and export to KML>rename to ZIP>open ZIP>extract Collada files>import to Blender :D

You would just need to change the frame size of the Blender camera to be the same as the photograph file (or just get the correct aspect ratio) and you also would need to adjust the lens size since that isn't exported in the Collada file (just tweak it by eye until it is as close as possible.)

Edit: NICE couch! :D

Amazing!

I just need to say it: Indigo output looks better than the commercial unbiased packages.
And it is lovely in the hands of artists like BbB.

Congrats.
