REQ: lightprobe camera

Post by StompinTom » Fri Nov 03, 2006 4:41 am

i think itd be cool to have a lightprobe camera option so you can make spherical HDR or EXR images to use in other scenes without having to resort to making multiple renders of and stitching them together afterwards. as far as workflow is concerned, you could make your lighting environment in Indigo and then use the environment map from that to light your models in another program with a faster renderer.

You could do a spherical one by having a perfectly reflective sphere in the scene. It would be like having a lightprobe.

yeah but then you only get one side of the sphere, and not a complete one either because of perspective.

Thats why I said spherical. A latlong one would be useful in some circumstances though, I agree.

true. since indigo is essentially hack-less, itd be cool to have this kind of stuff implemented right in. i mean you could hack it by using the reflective sphere, or get a fisheye lens by modelling it, but itd be easier i think if it werent a hack.
probably not high on the priority list anyways, just my two cents.
