cool free progs
A few more general ones:
Vmware server/player (for all your virtualisation needs)
http://www.vmware.com/
TortoiseSVN (all you ever need for versioning)
http://tortoisesvn.net/
Ubuntu (or any version of linux)
http://www.ubuntu.com/
OpenOffice (90% the functionality, 0% of the price)
http://www.openoffice.org/
Jedit (great IDE for xml and such)
http://www.jedit.org/
Oh - I forgot audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
That is about it for now. If I think of enough others, I'll add them.
People who pay for software (excluding games and *highly* specialised software) are suckers in my opinion. Everything you need can be found open source and free!

For now we can't export anything, this is still a tech demo not implementing all incoming features. But woaow the gallery is quite impressive ! thx for the link Tungee ! And yes, it's hard to figure out how to control the terrain but adding modifiers, clouds etc is straight forward imo. Control is not that easy
Correction: It appears to have some limitations a bit like Terragen 0.9 demo
-Max render resolution 800x600
-Max anti-aliasing 3
-Renderer not optimized so very slow
There might be more limitations but they dont really bother me, its still a huge upgrade since 0.9 and it "seems" there is no time limit.
