Well, folks, I have been lurking around these forums unregistered for the past week now and I have just started with Indigo in the past few days as well. A couple years ago I tried messing with POV-Ray for maybe three weeks, then lost interest. I think I literally discovered Blender and installed it hours before finding Indigo, so I am trying to learn both my modeler and Indigo at the same time.

*deep breath*

That said, here is my first not-just-suzanne-on-a-box scene. I would eventually like this scene to evolve into something minimalist but realistic. Next render will have: higher f-stop, higher table ior, more complex windows (?). Tell me what you think/good next step for a beginner (not to be greedy with this thread or anything...).
(sorry about the noise, I accidentally killed Indigo early :? )

"sorry for the noise"? xD
That's not too much noise, compared to many other renders :P
(It's about the usual amount of noise for a finished render, if you don't count stuff like wyt's insane 200h render ;))

as a first test, it's very nice :) slightly lower the saturation of the two spheres, I'd say... Else, I wait, until you improved what you posted, above :)

Very well done: you beveled your table's edges :)

One thing, which is very common to new users: your table legs have normal smoothing problems. Use the edgesplit-modifier to solve those black shadows on the legs :) (And do the same for the glass or add some loops, on the upper edge, as there also are smoothing errors)

Indigo doesn't like peaky things (where 90° already is a peak xD) ;) the standard settings of "30° split angle" in the edgesplit modifier, should be pretty much correct :)

nice :)

One of the two points, why you're using Maya was, that you don't need to switch to Windows... But there also are Linux 64bit versions of Blender! Windows-Blender 64bit doesn't exist but Linux does.

That comment was pointed toward MoI and my itch for NURBS (MoI will not and probably never work in Linux - Though I have manage to hack it into working in a Virtualbox windows load on a linux host using software rendering).

I have been using Blender for almost a year and love it. Blender is a fine tool, and getting better all the time. I even hear rumblings of better NURBS support in upcoming releases - we shall see...

It looks very round. Nice job. Just kidding, anyway, is there a reason you switch to Maya, if I may ask?

Maybe, I should clarify... I am not really "switching". Just learning something new. Maya seems to be an awesomely powerful system and as I said, NURBS is the biggy here - Blenders NURBS support is rudimentary at best.
