it's cool to see some Fryrender technology implemented in another rendering engine.

A little credit both for the tech and the tutorial would have been nice though.

Yes, well, it's not released yet, but yes, it is a great idea from the Fryrender guys, albeit based on ideas raised as far back as Veach's thesis in '97.

... and I think it was implemented in finalRender long before fryRender too :)

Wasn't finalRender a biased renderer? :?

It is, but maybe the technique is usefull for GI too (using photons); that makes sense.

well... the portals should be user defined, cuz for some strange reason someone might not want to use 'em. And it shouldnt be too hard for exporter like blendigo to have exit portal-ization for objects. There could be a list of objects, you select the object and check the little 'exit portal' box. Dunno, just my 2 cents :wink:

just make it an new material that can be applied to a mesh, perhaps the easies way for the user, and even to code... +2 cents

Or:

Code: Select all

<portal>
    <mesh>
        usual mesh definition
    </mesh>
</portal>
Automatic detection of portals would be very tricky I guess, so yes keep'em user defined !

but you may be right ZmoB, as <mesh> has reference to a material it may be smarter; dunno.

exit portals will be defined more or less like a mesh_light, for now

When you use meshlights (I asume that they work for them too)
will Indigo use the meshlight as a light AND an exit portal? :)
