[REQ] Big Sun and Bloom

Post by Zalevskiy » Sat Sep 22, 2018 11:14 pm

I saw the work done by Maxwell, the effect of bloom looks shocking! Is it possible to implement this in new versions of indigo? This effect is like a cherry on the cake.

I do not quite understand whether it is difficult to implement it technically, but the standard aperture diffraction is not such a wow like bloom. How to reproduce his fake indigo? 8)

I think it has something to do with aperture

indeed, carefully searching has found a topic about aperture, but still lacks bloom glow, very beautiful and realistic effect

Hi Zalevskiy, I did this render once and tried different apertures and f-stops to get the desired effect - not exactly what you wanted yet but 100% Indigo output (just sligthly denoised). Perhaps just start experimenting? ;-)

Zalevskiy, tovarish!
In order to get that kind of effect, like that thread you found suggests, you have to open up your aperture, make it big, and your lens has to be dirty, smudgy. So, use obstacle maps with fingerprints, heavily dirty, but bear in mind that too much of a bloom causes a little bit of a fake effect. If you wish to produce a sharper version of bloom, just close your aperture, set it to a high number, a perhaps use some interesting obstacle maps, like grids, or something. Also, notice, that you will have to adjust your exposure time, as you change your aperture sizes.

And don't forget to have fun, and post results! :D
