Newbie WIPs

Post by BbB » Wed Mar 14, 2007 3:41 am

Folks,
I'm relatively new here, and no more than a hobbyist. But I could do with some C+Cs on these couple of small scenes. The renders are quite dirty, just a couple of hours on a slow CPU with a little postprod (denoised). The first is just a few minutes, only to give a rough idea really.
(All modelled in Blender 243, using Indigo 07 test 5 with the (absolutely amazing) Blendigo exporter).

I guess, he/she is a newbie in Indigo, but not in Blender...

Thanks for the kind comments. I guess I'm still a newbie from the number of attempts it still takes me to get the objects/materials I'm really after. A lot of trial and error. But I must say I've been spending quite a bit of my spare time on Blender/Indigo since I ran into them earlier this year.

Docteur, the trees at the back of the first pic are not an environment map, but a flat, 10m pixel jpg placed behind the scene and aligned with the general perspective, a bit like a matte painting. This rarely works well in my experience, but I was lucky there because it's hard to discern the perspective in organic shapes like trees, the horizon's flat, and the blur helps too. Otherwise, the scene is lit with a sun.

By the way, I've been rendering overnight and will post updates soon.

Thanks a lot. Very nice and encouraging. I got an overnight crash, though, so no updates so far, but I've posted a few completed pics in the gallery.

A few more things. A Blender softbody cloth simulation (I couldn't be bothered to properly UV map the wood log), and an updated render of my bathroom image...

these sss-vases rock!
about the bathroom one: really good but still a bit noisy 8) and whats that in the left
upper corner? (looks like its further away but its in focus so it must be near :? )

Thanks Manitwo,
The square shape in focus in the bathroom scene is a mirror stuck to the side of the wood table. It's hard to tell, though, as it only reflects the white wall. As for the SSS vases, they're ok, but it's luck really. I still haven't mastered the SSS settings and especially the way they're influenced by the overall scale of the scene... Oh well, needs more trying.
