Indigo OpenCL the fastest PB Renderer out there?
It just might be, see comparisons by Silverwing, well know CGI generalist/guru.

And I don't think the Indigo devs have even had time to optimise it all that much yet.
However raw speed isn't everything. Indigo has a fair bit of caching up to do in other areas - as Silverwing mentions:
"When it comes to speed Indigo clearly wins. But when it comes to functionality while still being speedy I am with Octane. Thea is about the same speed as Octane. Might be worth a look too."
Still - things are looking good for the future IMO. If the developers manage to add all needed functionality without hampering the awesome performance.

Wow! Great comparison.
I wonder how/why CPU renderers are compared with GPU ones.

Indigo lacks sharpness of the edges as the account in order to add intellectual sharpness? or is that the only way out is rendering high-resolution, reduction in x0.5?

I think ( at least it seems to me ) that Indigo has better color repro than Ocatane and Cycles.
Specially in the last link with the lego tests.

... Huh? If you're talking about anti-aliasing, Indigo has plenty of settings for that.Zalevskiy wrote:Indigo lacks sharpness of the edges as the account in order to add intellectual sharpness? or is that the only way out is rendering high-resolution, reduction in x0.5?

With that speed...we can render in 4K & 5K and i think on that resolution antialiasing is not very much needed.Oscar J wrote:... Huh? But antialiasing will mask noise. It's worth to ask what filter settings were used.Oscar J wrote:... Huh? Sure, Indigo's superior AA is probably a contributing factor for beating the others. In Cycles, Octane etc you often have to downsize renders to get decent image quality because of their perfectly pixel aligned noise.Eneen wrote:But antialiasing will mask noise. But it's also down to things like overall rendering speed, material models (see the huge differences in realism on the glossy dragon), how Indigo handles DOF compared to, say Corona, and how well it renders caustics, etc.

When I was testing Lux vs Mitsuba vs Cycles, GI noise of last one has always been aligned like it haven't been antialiased at all, but aa has been working fine (smooth edges).Oscar J wrote:Sure, Indigo's superior AA is probably a contributing factor for beating the others. Yeah. A much less "photographic" looking noise.Eneen wrote:When I was testing Lux vs Mitsuba vs Cycles, GI noise of last one has always been aligned like it haven't been antialiased at all, but aa was working (smooth edges).Oscar J wrote:Sure, Indigo's superior AA is probably a contributing factor for beating the others. Re: Indigo OpenCL the fastest PB Renderer out there?
1. Supersampling factor 1 — aggressive sharpness
2. Supersampling factor 2 — blurry
3. Supersampling factor 2 + rendering x2 (1000x1000px) + resized PS to x0.5 — the perfect balance between smooth edges and sharpness
How to achieve a balance between 1 and 2? Super factor 1.5? Relative to other renderers indigo lacks the sharpness of details (edges)

What plugin are you using for Indigo?
In Blender I have a big amount of options to choose from. If you use Mitchell-Netraveli with Ring amount of 1 or more you get a very sharp image.

As I understand it in Cinema 4d missing these filters?
I do not even know of their existence. Thank you, for me it is discovery. Long to get used to the interface after the cinema 4d, but for the sake of sharpening filters I'm ready to go for this sacrifice.
