What has the indigo team been working on?

Post by neo0. » Fri Jun 19, 2015 7:39 am

No release in quite some time, just wanted to check in. I assume lots of work is being done on the gpu side of things? :) Hope everyone is doing well.

Was doing some stupid stat over past releases

3.8 December 2014
3.8 beta February 2014
3.6 November 2013
3.6 beta November 2012
3.4 November 2012
3.4 beta May 2012
3.2 April 2012
3.2 beta November 2011

so the 4.0 beta is definitely here, just didnt know (and I think nobody here does have more than speculations) when and if there will be a public beta release.

I've been chatting with Nick, and as far as I know they've been working on pure GPU for indigo 4, and improvements to Indigo Shader Language. Hopefully there will be some GUI improvements for the next release too, that dark skin that thesquirel did is really cool.

I've got a feeling Indigo 4 will be released the 1st of July.

I'm just hanging around the forums and talking to Nick sometimes. I don't have time to commit code to Indigo at the moment. :)

I am also interested into what is going on with Indigo development.

Was this always like this or dev is slower than usual. I come on these forums once in month and literally no change ... Compared to, for example, Thea forum (not to compare to other ones) this is like graveyard.
Blog is like post every 2 months? Plugin development is, well slow is not enough to describe it.

Did you guys maybe try to change you business approach? Indigo is not Open Source project, and somehow it feels like it is.

Switching to a full GPU integration is way much more work than just adding or fixing features. Rushing would be foolish.

There's this active related thread: Random GPU progress pic thread

What would become of CPU rendering in Indigo?! The way you wrote it, CTZn, it seems like switching means abbandoning CPU... :D
I hope they'll show some love towards good old CPU, and make it even more faster! Patience is the key, but it wouldn't hurt knowing what's brewing! :D

Sorry if I sounded like I knew something special that you wouldn't, I don't. I would have the same hopes as you do.
