Pace Gallery
Hi guys,
I started using Indigo back in 2006 when I made my first steps in CGI. It's been a long time since then and I haven't used Indigo for over half a decade now - feels all a bit weird to say that, doesn't feel THAT long.
However, by now I'm in ArchViz professionally for a few years now, but have been using V-Ray ever since. A few months back I decided to start freelancing, and now I finally got the time to revisit my former love - Indigo.
For this purpose I was looking for a very minimalistic subject to get familiar with Indigo again.
I chose a Photograph by Rafael Gamo he made in the Pace Gallery, as I saw it on ArchDaily and immediately liked it.
I think it served my purpose well. It's great to see that what Indigo does with this minimalistic space. Even though there's barely anything in there, I feel there is something going on. I love the photographic feel of Indigo and the materials instantly look amazing.
The picture was created in my spare time on 2 evenings, could have been 1 evening if I didn't struggle a bit at first with the technical side (Why is everything rendering black??? ).
So, I hope I will be here more often in the future and spam you with some questions.
Rendered with MLT BiDir at 2666x4000 to ~ 5000 spp and then downsized to 1333x2000. When downsized noise levels are acceptable I think, but at full size I'm not 100% happy with them in regard to the rendertime. But maybe this is due to my limited understanding of Indigo atm. I've placed area lights in the skylights you see, and from behind theres an HDRI kicking in. Maybe there is some room to optimize the setup.
I hope you like it.
Kind Regards
Christian

Re: Pace Gallery
Looks great! For better render times, use Bidirectional pathtracing and a higher SS value if you're getting fireflies. Also exit portals for the HDRI could help, but sometimes it slows the ks/sec rate a lot for some reason.
Re: Pace Gallery
Thanks you guys! Got about 1400k sps on this one with Dual E5 2630 - does that seem about right?

Re: Pace Gallery
That seems perfectly reasonable. As I said, you'd probably get better performance with BiDir without MLT, especially for fairly simple interiors with big light sources and without much glass.Behrendt wrote:Thanks you guys! Re: Pace Gallery
Thanks for the advice. Might try rendering again just for fun so I can compare. Also fiddled around with some abstract things, hope I can share some more soon.
Re: Pace Gallery
Very nice Image. Like the colors.

Had a feeling I had seen something similar recently. https://corona-renderer.com/forum/index ... 076.0.html
Your render is much better, obviously.

Hehe, wasn't aware of that. I guess the place makes quite the impression on CG artists.
Re: Pace Gallery
Hey Behrendt, was just having a look at your website, you've got some wonderful images on there! Did you use Indigo for them all? I particularly like your images of the Trojan House... excellent work.
*Edit - never mind I thought I recognised it from a Making-Of on Ronen Berkerman, just didn't connect the dots Very well done.

Re: Pace Gallery
Thanks Yeah, those are mostly done with V-Ray, as I used it at work for the last few years. But those are all non-commercial renders, sadly I can't show any comissioned work public right now.
But I really look forward to work with Indigo some more, I'm really really fed up with V-Ray.

Moin Behrendt, welcome back
A Simple but Simply awesome image!
Regarding your Noise issues I have the following ideas/advices:
1) Put every group of Lightsources into a own LightLayer, by that you can see during switching them on & off what LL does produce the most noise.
2) For interiors BiDir PT should do the best job in general, if you aim to use MLT, then raise the "LArge Mutation Prob" to 0.8+ for a more PT like noise behavior...
3) take care to keep your whites @ max of 204 in RGB: http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... 19&t=12529
I hope maybe something here can help
looking forward to see more from your!
