I bought a new monitor, so I had to re-render one of my old scenes in larger resolution to get new desktop wallpaper. Also played around some with the light layers to get some more color in it.

It's a part of a visualization I made for a concept for a parametric design course I had a couple of years ago. The real thing ended up being a lot more sturdy, and it was a pain to build. You know, as a kid you wish you had a million legos so you could build a fortress, but when you actually have to stick them together (or even some 10 000 of them) you quickly forget that dream...

the mesh is low resolution, its normals should be set to hard, not smooth. this is biasing the render geometrically speaking.

you can use Indigo subdivisions to smooth the geometry. Sorry I can not read russian !

Hello all!

First of all, I'd like to say I an a new user of Indigo renderer. And I LIKE IT! :)

This is my first water drop test. It doesn't look real enough to me. Maybe you have some suggestions.
C & C's are always welcome. :)

Btw I'm using Firepro V4900 GPU. I know it's not meant for rendering. Maybe you could suggest which GPU to buy? AMD of Nvidia? AMD -> OpenCL, Nvidia -> Cuda?

Thanks! :)

Software: Cinema 4D, Indigo renderer.

Try bidir MLT for nice caustics, and add something to the cauchy_b-value in your water material.
Welcome to indigo!

Cheers, zeiti

realism will depend on a number of parameters, and when it comes to such a simple subject the most important is how light is interacting with the environment.

try adding objects that will interfer with the drop's lighting, and welcome BTW.

You also need a small size emitter.

I used HDRI environment as a light source. What kind of emitter you are talking about? Plane or simple light? I'm new to this. :)

Thank you for suggestions

A small emitting plane would do the trick. I think the water drop looks quite realistic already though, try making the ground material wood or something.

A light is basically a plane with a light emmiter material. :) Add one, set the size, give it a different layer and off to the moon! :D

If you want more caustics, which really is what makes renders like this more interesting then use multiple small but bright light sources.
iMac 2.93 GHz Quad Core i7. 12 GB memory
ATI Radeon HD 5750M 1024 MB
OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite
Blender 2.72, Blendigo 3.8.25, Indigo 3.8.26
