Indigo render speed

Post by F.ip2 » Mon Feb 26, 2007 10:35 am

Hi

I was learning Indigo the last three weeks. I was exploring Kerkythea as well.
Because I work personally a lot with Blender I prefer the integration the Blender exporter
provides. the script runs very well.

I am learning KT with SketchUp for my interior design students.

However what I found is that Indigo seems to render significantly slower than KT.

I am not sure if this is a question of settings or if Indigo is indeed slower.

Can somebody give me some information here? Are there ways how you can accelerate
the rendering speed?

you can speed up rendering by setting "super_sample_factor" to 1 and by lowering "max_num_consec_rejections"

is the nature of indigo and generaly the unbiased renderers use huge calculations to produce this high quality images....KT isnt unbiased....so yes its slower but better...

KT is not unbiased? I thought it is. i am aware of that unbiased requires more calculations because of the reason you mentioned. I was just puzzled why Kt was so much faster.

They also use the MTL. can you maybe explain me why they are not unbiased so I know it incase a student asks me. I am not a coder just an end user so it is hard for me to see what is running behind the screen.

I looked at the glass images and I am very impressed also with the skin and SSS results.
I am very much excited about the lab measurements of metal surfaces as well.

Somehow some of the architecture images look metallic in some way.
I cannot say why but the colors seem to look like metals.

Are there plans to include procedurals like found in Blender into Indigo as well?

yes the truth is that kt uses mlt system but its fake....i have a talk with kt writer and he told me about their plans and how work kt at the moment...the will try to make some real unbiased ver but in the middle of 2007 will be ready....i cant tell more technikaly info and there is no point to analyse...the conclusion is....unbiased=time

How low would you set "max_num_consec_rejections" to?

Thanks for the tips.

I just saw that there is a seamless integration with SketchUp as well.

great!

As a memeber of KT team I can guarantee that KT is unbiased. I am not sure what Kosmokrator is refering to, but rest asured that KT MTL is a solid unbiased estimator. Now it might not have perfect mutation strategies but does has nothing to do with unbiaseness.
Now since this is Indigo's forum please check the Kerkythea forum for further clarification on this issue!

I don't like that my first post here is for such an issue.

but giannis post "The Lies of a user Kosmokrator from Indigo forum" is totaly overreacted and a shame, sorry :!:

Ok "Answering to user Kosmokrator (from Indigo forum)" sounds already better  :)

Discussing is the way to find together the right way and the truth (or something like that :) )
So, sorry for my reaction last post :D
