Apple Brushed Aluminium?
Apple Brushed Aluminium?
Does anyone have a material that is like the brushed aluminium Apple use on their products?
I've looked in the material database and there isn't one that is right. I tried to edit the Brushed Metal texture: http://www.indigorenderer.com/materials/materials/212
However it is too reflective and the colour/texture isn't quite right. I'm a bit of a novice at the though.

Re: Apple Brushed Aluminium?
What you show on the picture is not really brushed aluminum but rather rough anodized aluminum.
Just start with a phong material, set the nk data to Al, and set the exponent to a very low value such as 1. That should be closer already.

The Apple devices usually don't exhibit a "rough anodized" finish. The surface is usually very finely glass bead blasted and then anodized, so the surface should definitely have an exponent larger than 1.
For a close up I'd use a subtle very fine grain bump with NK material and perhaps Exponent 100+

Thanks, It seems to have worked
How do I get the colour to change though, its always white.
I've tried settings an image colour and via the palette which doesn't seem to work

You can unset the nk data and set the "specular color" insteadBuggie wrote:Thanks, It seems to have worked

Re: Apple Brushed Aluminium?
I once made such a material, if I remember right the setup was as following:
Material type: Metal
Specular: light grey color, about 35-40 percent of grey
Exponent: somewhere between 10 and 20 if I'm correct, could be slightly more, but definately not over the 100
I'll see if I can find the renders I made and the corresponding material when I get back home.
